1978 911 SC Sportomatic Targa project. 1978 911SC sportomatic undergoing a transformation into a 911 that's light, responsive and fun to drive with some of the best chosen old and new technologies combined with a 'nod' to the 1967 sportomatic '911 R' that won the 'Marathon de la Route' 84 hour race with Hermann, Neerpasch and Vic Elford at the wheel.. Modifications to reduce weight so far include a 964 RS 3.8 'narrow body' refit, Cup 3 wheels, drilled disks and stainless steel braided brake hoses, early '73 911S heat exchangers, a Triad West Performance 'two in two out' exhaust and a backdated heating system. Interior cosmetic treatments include a centre console mounted custom CD rack and a fire extinguisher. Recently and probably never done before is a Type 925/02 four speed sportomatic transmission backdate. To follow at a later date will be a complete suspension upgrade and refurbishment, fitting of a CIS to EFI kit, further weight reductions and a paddle shift gear change to follow . |

'On the farm' in Fakenham, Norfolk, England. | Coupled with the front splitter the 3.8 RS rear wing provides enormous grip from the increased downforce. |
| Originally Black & Tan with Tartan inlays
in the seats. Just a few more tweeks in here. The black lever is a hand control for the accelerator and brakes. Traditional but safe and effective. | Note fire extinguisher bolted to centre console | Not a clear photo but I removed the original cassette rack and replaced it with a simple CD holder. It's a sheet of shiny , black , scratch resistant plastic. I employed a local firm to use their CAD software working to my original drawing. It cost about £15.00 and takes five minutes to fit by sticking a lump of foam for the CDs to 'spring' back off at the inside back of the console and rests on four self adhesive sticky pads. | |
| The car brakes on rebuilt original SC calipers with stainless steel braided B.F. Goodridge hoses and drilled disks. | The luggage compartment is in a good enough condition to leave it without a carpet but the weight saving is so minimal here I thought it looked better with the carpet fitted. | The beading clearly tidies up the fit around the fuse box. | Remade luggage compartment carpets in a hard wearing cord backed carpet and had it beaded with OEM Porsche edging strip. |
